Business Card Printing on a Budget

By: Colleen Davis

Small and large businesses alike often do not have the need nor the budget for expensive business card printing projects. But business cards are an essential tool for communicating with customers. Business cards are simply not one of the marketing tools you just skip altogether.

So, how do you save money when business card printing is so important? Do-it-yourself options abound but often result in an unprofessional end-product. The key is to know what options are available to you, and to make sure that you still include the essential elements of a business card.

Bulk business card printing
One of the best ways to save money is bulk color business card printing. Many printing firms have minimum runs for business card printing that start around 250-500 cards. Once you meet this minimum, your cost per business card will drop dramatically. It is always less expensive to print more than you think you might need than to have to ask the print shop to print off a few more cards for you.

Black and white
Save money on your business card printing project by printing with black ink on white paper. Avoid using color if at all possible. If you cannot avoid using color, try to limit yourself to only one color as this will still cut costs considerably. Printing with color will be one of your highest costs, so limit this cost by limiting your use of color.

Basic stock paper
Business card printing can be done on a broad range of paper types, but thick card stock is standard and should not diminish the overall look and feel. Paper choice should be one of the lower priorities when trying to save money as paper texture only provides subtle improvements to business card printing projects.

Basic business card printing elements
Finally, your business card needs basic contact information. The name of your company, your name, your title, phone number, corporate web address, and your personal e-mail address are essential. Shipping or street address and fax lines are becoming less important as more businesses go digital. Finally, if at all possible, include your corporate logo. This is a very important element, as it helps connect and distinguish your business card.
