The new year always finds most of us thinking of those things we want to do, but never had the chance to do in the past. To many people, one of those things could be learning to play the drums. Learning to play a musical instrument is very rewarding, but along the way, you will also encounter many challenges. Not that you should allow you to let these challenges deter you but you do need to be aware of them so you know how to deal with them. Your first challenge when learning to play the drums as an adult will be in finding the instrument. Here is where total honesty is required of you. Truthfully answer the following questions, before going to the music store and buying the most expensive drums you can find. ·Do I really know that I will enjoy this that much? ·Do I know that I will stick to the drum classes? ·How much can I afford on a set of drums? These are just some of the questions that you have to answer honestly. Your answers will likely show you that buying the best set of drums is not right at this time. You can start the lessons with a beginner set of drums, and later on buy a better instrument, when you feel that you have made considerable progress. Your next challenge will be in finding the right type of adult drum classes. Will you be taking a traditional "in person" class or an Online class. Both are great options and the choice you make really depends on your personal life, and your schedule. An "in person" class will allow you to meet other drummers, and people that are interested in learning music. This will get you out of your normal routine but an online class can also be helpful. In an adult drum lesson, you sit right up close to the teacher and can ask any question you want. You can either decide to take group or individual classes, and the price will vary according to the type of class you take. Just be sure you get a good drummer teacher. You can accomplish this by asking the right questions to the right people. For instance, you should ask about the experience the teacher has, how long he has been teaching, and what teaching method he uses. You should also know that a great teacher is not necessarily a great player, and vice versa, a great player does not necessarily make a great teacher. Another one of the most challenging aspects of adult drum lessons, is how to be consistent in attending the classes. It is important to set aside time in your schedule to make it to every class you have. When you start canceling classes then you get out of the routine, and you stop practicing. Eventually you stop taking those drummer classes you were so interested in. You may overcome many of the challenges in learning to play the drums, by buying the correct drum set, selecting the right teacher and by being consistent in attending your classes and in practicing. All these will make your learning quicker and easier.
