Nearly one in three Americans older than age 45 reports some sort of knee pain. Knee injuries and medical conditions, such as osteoarthritis, tenderness, swelling and fracture can lead to mounting pain, joint damage and even disability if left untreated. Sustaining a healthy weight, strengthening knee muscles and being smart about exercise are the best things you can do for your knee’s wellbeing.

The ankle is an intricate weight-bearing joint where three bones come together - the tibia, the larger bone of the lower leg and the fibula bone. Ankle sprains, fractures and tendonitis are some of the most ordinary musculoskeletal injuries. The prevention of most ankle troubles occur when weight is controlled, stretching before exercise and proper fitting shoes. If you are prone to ankle pain or twisting your ankle during specific activities, use ankle support braces. These include air-casts, ACE bandages, or lace-up ankle supports.

Wrist pain can be triggered by several things including tendonitis, a common problem that can cause pain and swelling, wrist sprain injuries to the ligaments around the wrist joint, bone fractures and carpal tunnel syndrome which is caused from the dysfunction of one of the nerves in the wrist. Carpal tunnel syndrome can be prevented by adjusting the computer keyboard and taking breaks from typing during the day.

The most common diagnosis in patients with shoulder pain is bursitis or tendonitis of the rotator cuff, frozen shoulder and calcium deposits in or around the shoulder. Rotator cuff tears occur when the tendons of the rotator cuff separate from the bone. While surgery is sometimes required for the rotator cuff, a regular shoulder fitness plan should prevent other injuries.
