Robin Boyd: He was born in a family where art was prominent. His father and his cousin were painters. The mark of modern residential architecture by Robin Boyd became unique because he designed houses around central courtyards. He created living spaces so that they were arranged in a series of open platforms. Boyd designed the Featherston House for Grand and Mary Featherstone. This house is designed around an internal garden atrium. The roof of this house is translucent above the atrium. This makes the person feel as if he/ she is in a garden. Some of the other famous residential architecture creations by Robin Boyd are Baker House and Walsh Street House.
Roy Grounds: He was born in 1905 and died in 1981. He studied at Melbourne University and considered one of the most important architects to bring the modern residential architecture to Australia. Roy Grounds is most famous for creating Australian Academy of Science Building which is dome shaped. In the organization of his plans, Roy Grounds used to experiment with the nonphysical forms such as squares, rectangles, circles and triangles. Some of the modern residential architecture hallmarks of Roy Grounds are the Round House, Hill Street House and Leyser House. The Round House is in Frankston and circular in shaper. The Hill Street House is in Toorak and is a square plan with courtyard which is circular. The Leyser House is in Kew and is triangular in shape.
