There was a lot of hype about the launch of the Intel Core i7. It was said to be bigger and better, the launch also meant that Nehalem, was making its much awaited debut. And it did deliver a very reliable product, and in many ways a unique product, but then are some issues too. The Similarities: Let us look at how similar it is to Core 2 Quad QX9770. •They both have a Penryn Core •They consist of 45 nanometer chips •Both run at a clock speed of 3.2 GHz. The Advantages and The Changes: After the above said similarities, what you have is a brand new and a really impressive piece of technology. It is faster and is more efficient. •The 12MB of L2 cache is gone from the chip and is replaced by a third level of cache at 8MB. •The memory bandwidth has increased by a great margin, thanks to the addition of a memory controller. •The core i7 contains another processor core that is very tiny; this processor is the Power Management Unit of the system. •The processor is capable of running eight threads at a time thanks to the return of Simultaneous Multi Threading. •The other features include the Dynamic Energy Management and improved branch prediction. The Disadvantages: There is no real disadvantage as of now, some minor glitches. •There is not much good news for gamers as there is not significant increase in that department. •The processors don't really work when the memory voltage exceed 1.6V. And if this limit is crossed, there is a risk of the motherboard getting fried. Final Say: The price is said to be going to be steady at 283$, and that is going to be something that we have to watch for too. The Intel i7 is reliable when it come to the over clocking front too, a bit more cooling and a bit more air supply is all that it needs to reach even better heights. It will take some more time to really unravel the various depths and issues' relating to the i7, for now it's all about performance at its best.
