Protecting your children from the programming that appears on television that is more geared toward adults is harder these days than it used to be simply because there is so much more content that is just not for kids to see. What you find appropriate and what someone else finds appropriate for their children to watch certainly may vary, but one convenient thing about satellite TV service is that it often allows you to control what your children watch and often in several different manners. There are a lot of reasons why you would want to control your child's TV access. Whether you just want to control how much TV your kids are watching every day, when they are able to watch it, use the control as a punishment, or control the kinds of shows they watch, you can often do this with your satellite system's software. The way the parental controls work is that it requires a passcode for them to be overridden by the person watching the television. You can block out entire channels this way if there is a channel you know for sure you do not want your kids viewing. In other circumstances, a channel may be mostly okay, but still offer some programs that you find objectionable. When this happens, you can adjust the content screener to block certain shows based on their content. Or if you want to be more general, you can block shows simply by what their rating is. This is a great tool to use when you and your spouse are going out for the night and want to still have control over the TV, even when there is no babysitter there to make sure certain programs do not get watched. We all know that some babysitters disobey our wishes as to what our kids watch on TV; with satellite TV service, you can often get around this problem. Another great feature of most satellite TV providers is the autotune feature. This allows you to look at programs that have not yet aired and will let you program your receiver to automatically tune in to that program when it does air or it will give you a reminder that a program is coming on later so you do not forget. Pay per view channels are also available for those nights that you just do not feel like taking the whole family out to see a movie at the theater. Not only is it convenient, but it is also cheaper, since it could cost some families $40 or more to go to the movies, depending on the price of tickets in their area.
