Volkswagen PassatLow Beam Bulb Replacement

By: Jessica Thomson

It is usually easier to replace the low beam bulb on the passenger's side than on the driver's side. However, the job requires a fair degree of mechanical aptitude and patience.
Refer to the manufacturer's manual if you have one.
Caution: Do it carefully as there is a possibility of damaging the brake lever.
Procedure:
1) Lift the hood and inspect the rear portion of the headlight just behind the light.
2) There will be a release lever in the shape of a hook. Also observe the rectangular area next to the release lever.
3) Press the 'textured area' with your finger and open the lock of the release lever.
4) Keep the textured area pressed and lift the release lever. The whole assembly will come off.
5) If the assembly is already unlocked place your hand on the assembly and try to 'feel' the assembly. Now tug at the assembly and pull it towards yourself.
6) The assembly will become lose and it will be away from the main body by about half to one-fourth an inch.
7) Hold the headlight assembly firmly or it may fall off. Now with a firm grip pull the assembly. It should come off without much difficulty.
8) Now remove the plastic cover of the bulb.
9) Change the bulb. Always use genuine 'Volkswagen Bulbs'.
10) Put the plastic cover back in place.
11) Put the headlight assembly back in its place.
12) If the assembly housing is dirty clean it with a wet rag.
13) If you feel that the guide rails need some lubrication, lubricate them.
14) The driver's side needs a little more time. If you need any assistance contact your neighborhood dealer.
The procedure for changing the low beam bulbs, whether it is Volkswagen bulbs , or Peugeot bulbs, is more or less the same and if you are not confident of doing it yourself, contact the nearest dealer.
